Health Insurance (Medical, Dental and Vision)

Miami-Dade County employees can get medical, dental and vision health insurance coverage.

You must enroll during your initial benefits eligibility period, during the annual benefits open enrollment, or within 45 days of a status change or qualifying event.

To be eligible, you must be one of these:

  • Full-time employee
  • Part-time employee who is scheduled to work 60 hours per pay period
  • Variable Hours Employee who averages 60 or more hours per pay period (as measured over 26 pay periods)

Medical Insurance

The County provides comprehensive medical coverage for you and your family. You can choose from the medical plans that are available to you based on your Bargaining Unit’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. All plans include prescription drug and behavioral health coverage. When you're newly hired or become newly eligible for benefits, the effective date of coverage is based on your start date.

For employees enrolling during their initial eligibility period, health benefits coverage will begin on the first day of the month coincident with 60 days of employment if the employee starts on the first day of the month. For example, if any employee starts on July 1, their benefits will begin on Sept 1. If someone begins their employment on July 2, then he or she would become eligible for benefits on October 1. This rule applies to each month of the year.

Dental Insurance

You may enroll yourself and your eligible dependents for dental coverage even if you decline the medical coverage. There are two dental plans available: PPO Standard or Enriched and DHMO Standard or Enriched.

Vision Insurance

Vision coverage is available to all employees eligible for medical and dental coverage, regardless of union affiliation. Employees pay the full cost of the program.
