Animal Services does not provide dog traps to the public.
Animal Control Officers may decide to set up a trap if they are unable to catch a stray dog. If the officer places the trap to capture an animal and you are present when the trap is placed, you can be trained on how to re-set the trap if it gets locked without the animal inside.
If you decide to purchase a dog trap, you are responsible for the humane capture and care of the animal or you can report the stray.
311 Only Information
Only an ACO or 311 Support Line Staff can open Dog Trap Request SR
The initial request has to be made by an ACO
When will the trap be delivered?
Traps are delivered any day of the week between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
The citizen is advised to contact ASD/311 once the dog is in the trap and to request the trap be picked up.
Once dog has been trapped and they were advised to contact ASD to request pick up, do the following:
Open INJURED ANIMAL SR
Enter notes that the dog is in an ASD trap and ready to be picked up
No one needs to be present when the ACO is picking up the trap
When ASD places a trap, ASD will train the person on how to reset the trap in case the trap gets locked without the animal inside.
If caller states the trap was set by ASD, the animal is injured and they are unable to reset the trap:
First locate the SR number for the Dog Trap Request
Contact 311 Support Line to send an escalated email to ASD Staff
Residents who placed a privately owned dog trap are responsible for the care of the dog until ACO responds.
If citizen is reporting a dog captured in their private trap open Stray Dog Pick Up SR and advise caller of the timeframe for pickup
If request is to have an ASD dog trap removed:
Confirm that there is no animal (dog/cat) inside the trap
Confirm a Dog Trap Request SR was opened
Contact the 311 Support Line and request an escalated email be sent to ASD Enforcement
Do NOT open INJURED ANIMAL SR for an empty trap to be picked up (no dog/cat inside)
