Residents can request a trap from Animal Services through the Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) program. Cat traps are available free of charge but require a $50.00 refundable deposit and may picked up and returned to the Pet Adoption and Protection Center. Cat traps must be returned within ten days and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Pets Thrive in 305 is a program where cat food is donated to ASD and distributed to volunteers to feed community cats through the Cat TNR/TNVR program. For anyone interested in participating, advise them to send an email to: Cattnr@miamidade.gov with their contact information.
Hours are:
Monday to Friday – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday – 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
Closed on County holidays.
For TNR participants who rent cat traps at ASD, they may request an extension past the ten (10) days in order to capture more cats.
Advise caller to send an email to: Cattnr@miamidade.gov so that ASD is aware that the trap will not be returned in the ten (10) day timeframe.
Any additional charges will be provided by ASD staff.
When an Animal Control Officer cannot capture a stray cat (showing signs of rabies, aggressiveness, or injury), a cat trap will be set in the immediate area to lure the cat into the trap.
Residents cannot request this service; only an ACO can decide to leave the trap in the area
ACO will train nearby citizens on how to reset the trap
Once the cat is in the trap, the citizen will be advised to contact ASD/311 to request that the trap be picked up.
Enter notes that the cat is in an ASD trap and ready to be picked up
NOTE: No one needs to be present when the ACO is picking up the trap set by ASD, however, citizens are responsible for the traps set by them.
Contact the 311 Support Line to send an escalated email to ASD Staff if the animal is inside the trap.
When ASD places a trap to capture an animal, ASD will train the person nearby the trap on how to reset the trap in case:
the trap gets locked without the animal inside or
a different animal was captured.
If the caller states ASD set the trap, the animal is injured, another animal went into the trap, and they are unable to reset the trap:
Search for an existing SR with the caller’s address (Possibly Injured Animal)
Contact 311 Support Line to send an escalated email to ASD Staff
Confirm that there is no animal (dog/cat) inside the trap
Confirm that the trap was placed by ASD (Animal Control Officer)
Contact the 311 Support Line and request an escalated email be sent to ASD Enforcement
Do NOT open INJURED ANIMAL SR for an empty trap to be picked up (no dog/cat inside)
Refund Request, Follow-Up, or Escalation on cat trap
