Water Wisely

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American household uses about 30 percent of its water outdoors, while in some parts of the country, this can be as high as 70 percent. Experts estimate that as much as 50 percent of landscape water use goes to waste due to evaporation, wind, or runoff caused by overwatering.

Miami-Dade County's Water and Sewer Department's Water Wisely program offers residents water conservation programs and tips to help you become more water efficient and still maintain beautiful yards and landscaping.

Miami-Dade County offers a FREE landscape assessment of your yard and irrigation system. Eligible applicants can receive rebates up to $500 for single-family homes and $2,850 for large properties including condominium associations as part of the Landscape Irrigation Rebate Program. Efficient irrigation will reduce the amount of water used outdoors to create healthier, more sustainable landscapes.

Miami Dade County also promotes the use of rain barrels for irrigation by offering workshops and rebates to homeowners who purchase rain barrels. Rainfall captured from a roof provides a supply of chemical free water for orchids, potted plants and landscaping while reducing pollution from storm water runoff.

Visit the Rain Barrel Rebate Program for more information.

Significant amounts of water is also used indoors. Learn more about Miami Dade County’s indoor water conservation program to reduce your water use and save money!
