Miami-Dade County Animal Services funds the following organizations in order to subsidize the cost of sterilization surgeries:
Miami Veterinary Foundation Spay or Neuter Program (MVF) Qualified low income pet owners are provided spay and neuter services for their pets with a minimal co-payment for the services.
Proof of low income status must be provided to the participating veterinarian
Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated against rabies at a deeply discounted rate
Services are offered at participating, licensed Miami-Dade County veterinarians and veterinary clinics
Free Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return by MVF As part of the MVF spay or neuter program, community cats - un-owned cats, whose 'home' is within the community rather than in an individual household - are spayed or neutered for free-for-all residents. TNVR offers free vaccinations and ear tip in addition to sterilization.
This clinic offers a low-cost fee structure for Miami-Dade County residents in need of basic and preventative veterinary care services. Residents on government assistance may qualify for reduced fees.
The Cat Network has two programs to help sterilize cats for the public: they sell low-cost spay and neuter certificates to their members that can be used at area veterinary clinics that participate in their program. They also have a Meow Mobile traveling clinic that is available to all cat caretakers and will accept appointments for owned cats.
MVF has partnered with Miami Dade Animal Services to create accessible opportunities for spay-neuter services for the low-income community, including for community cats with a minimal co-payment for the services. Vouchers are available for services at participating animal hospitals throughout Miami-Dade County.
Tip the Trapper and TNR (aka Trap and Release) services for stray cats are ongoing:
at Doral Pet Center (walk-in up to 4 cats allowed daily)
at the Homestead Clinic (by appointment only) and
at the Humane Society by appointment.
ASD has Cat Tip program for trappers and for the public called the Tip the Trapper Initiative (TNVR) to humanely manage the cat population by providing a monetary incentive to local cat trappers to capture and take in community cats to be vaccinated, sterilized and ear-tipped by ASD. (For stray cats only - not owned, free-roaming cats)
To be eligible for this incentive of $15 per eligible cat, trappers must bring cats to the Doral Pet Center. Once cats have been medically cleared for release, trappers must pick them up and return them back to the location where cats were trapped.
Guidelines
Eligible stray cats must weigh at least 1 1/2 pounds or more and may/may not receive sterilization based on age, health, injury or prior sterilization determined by Vet.
All cats must be treated humanely
The initiative is only available to Miami Dade County residents and only Miami Dade County cats are eligible
Trapper shall trap and transport the stray cats to ASD - (no limit on the number of cats)
Once services have been performed and the cats are medically cleared for release, the trapper must pick up and return the cats to the location where the cats were trapped.
ASD reserves the right to reject TNVR services, if it's in the best interest of the cat.
TNVR services shall be solely and exclusively defined by ASD, which shall determine, at its sole discretion, trapper eligibility for the CAT TIP Program
The trapper shall not engage in malicious activities that may damage the reputation of ASD, its other rescue partners, employees or volunteers.
Remittance: The method of payment is a monthly check that will be mailed to the trapper. Cumulative amount for the month will be based on eligible cats brought in by the trapper.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 6:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday 7 AM – 4 PM - closed on County holidays. For additional information on the Tip the Trapper Initiative, advise caller to contact Brianna Garris at Cattnr@miamidade.gov
