How do I apply for a Local Business Tax Receipt?
Local Business Tax is a fee imposed for the privilege of doing business in the County. The generated funds are used to help fund economic development efforts, including the Beacon Council development organization, and pay for administrative costs.
Not all industries are taxed.
To start a new business:
- Decide where the business will be located
- If chosen location is within Unincorporated Miami-DadeCounty, contact Local Business Tax Section at 305-270-4949 or via email at localbusinesstax@mdctaxcollector.gov to obtain specific requirements.
- If chosen location is in a municipality other than Unincorporated Miami-Dade, the Local Business Tax office for both the County and the Municipality must be contacted for requirements, as a receipt must be obtained from each jurisdiction.
Anyone providing merchandise, entertainment, or service directly or indirectly to the public, even through a one-person company or home-based occupation, must obtain a Local Business Tax to operate.
In order to obtain a Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt, the following requirements are a must:
- Copies of:
Articles of Corporation 850-245-6052
Fictitious Name Registration 850-245-6058
Florida Department of State - Federal Tax ID Number
- Depending on business location if in Unincorporated Miami-Dade (Certificate of Use from Planning and Zoning Dept. 786-315-2666 or, if located in a Municipality, (City Business Tax Receipt).
- Download application form and select Business Tax Categories
The completed form may be faxed or mailed along with the required documents. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, excluding holidays.
